Wild Woods Visionary Artists
A lifetime fascination with form, illusion and the concept of infinity led multi-faceted creative entrepreneur Mike Flex down a long and winding path of study that continues to branch out like a fractal. Utilizing a vast combination of skills both analog and digital, his work to takes shape across all mediums, including but not limited to print, web, video and live performances.
What Collective is the brainchild of Mike Clews the Director of Art and Community at Wild Woods. Our goal is to use a collective effort to bring the spotlight on individual artists, specifically visual artists both static and performance.
This idea formed at Wild Woods 2015. The art and community department of the festival was a great success and we realized we have the ability to bring this to other events. We understand that live painters and flow artists can be bought at lower rates but we are sure we will go above and beyond expectations and take the look of your event to the next level.
. At our most basic we are a rental company. Our vision is to act as an all in one featured artist program that includes building a gallery on site and managing the artists. We aim to create a space where art can be displayed and artists can personally be appreciated.
We offer high caliber talent and professional work ethic. We hope to prove to the community that visual arts are an integral part of a festival and that our artists deserve to be paid. Our business model is based upon splitting our structure rental fees to help subsidise the artists. We are completely self sufficient with our own build team.
We of the Reliquarium offer a variety of custom works that are imbued with the forces of life and death in reverence to the power of the natural world. It is most gratifying to create personalized wearable effigies of the earth and encourage you to reach out to us with unique requests for individual wear.
Designed and crafted with the utmost intention to materials and the stories they tell, we work with growth and decomposition as orchestrator of the ultimate process to bring dead objects back to life.
These objects contain a history within them. They are relics of that story of life and death and that history is inscribed on them. The essence of the animal lives on in the relics of its life, in its skull, in its bones. We celebrate this process, drawing upon it and imbuing them with our own process. They gain more layers of growth, of history, as the wearer adorns them. The wearer grows with them and the cycle continues.
I use a variety of mediums such as resin, inks, UV pigments, and glow powders to create 3D starscapes and galaxyscapes (with the help of 3D glasses!) My inspiration comes from an interest in astronomy and astrophysics. I have been fascinated by science for many years, and I love using its powers to create art.
